Content of the academic programm

EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
English is the vehicular language of biology, in France and internationally.
The master’s programme therefore offers training in English as part of foreign language teaching. It consists of:
  •     1 Course Unit (UE) compulsory English each year
  •     1 Course Unit (UE) of "English-language scientific analysis" by English-speaking researchers
  •     Teaching in English in several EU scientific disciplines
  •     The possibility of taking a TOEIC preparation course
  •     Course materials written in English
  •     All of the tutorials are based on the analysis of scientific articles written in English.
  • Internships and projects occupy an important place in the master’s programme. They are compulsory and their place becomes more and more predominant over the course of the semester. They are the privileged place of professionalization.

These different situations will allow students to carry out a bibliographical research/case study, to design, implement and conduct a research project or an application project, to return the work in written form (writing a thesis) and oral (presentation in a limited time in French or English).

These are in M1 (first year of master degree) :
    •     Line of Business Project (for the duration of semester 1)
    •     Introductory research workshop (3 weeks in S2)
    •     Pre-internship and end-of-M1 vocational integration course (8 weeks in S2).

Freely chosen by the students, takes place mainly abroad in academic laboratories or in industry.

  • To encourage exchanges with foreign universities and/or laboratories, students are trained in English and are in contact with foreign researchers:
    •     Conferences given by foreign researchers
    •     M1 courses open to foreign laboratories. The training supports students in this process: more than 50% of the students from previous promotions have completed their internship outside of France.
    •     M2 internships abroad in partner laboratories and/or companies.

The term “Biology-Health” is used in several training and exchange partnerships agreed at international level:
    •     Bilateral Erasmus exchange agreements concluded by the University of Clermont-Auvergne

Further studies

The master’s degree directly offers the possibility of pursuing a PhD in Health and Earth and Life Sciences, regardless of the field of specialization in France or abroad. The longer-term opportunities are thus in the research professions (researchers, teacher-researchers, research engineers in the public or private sector).

Links & Reorientation
Link between the courses of the master:  the passage from one course to another is free during the year of M1 (1st year) between Semester 1 and Semester 2, then between Semester 2 and Semester 3. From Semester 3, registration in a course becomes final.
